CESRA and CSR Kenya is a non-profit organization that provides a venue through which donors can learn
about the best grass root non-profit organizations working in Kenya, those which meet the highest standards of accountability while achieving the greatest impact - and how to get involved with them.

We offer the Seal for excellence for local nonprofit organizations. This mark shows organizations in Kenya meets standards of charity accountability. These standards are based on fundamental values, such as honesty, integrity, fairness, respect, trust, compassion, responsibility and accountability. They describe how nonprofits should act to be ethical and accountable in their program operations, governance, human resources, financial management, fundraising, and procurement. Members are supported in their efforts to achieve these standards through training and technical assistance.

CSR launched in Kenya

A new non-profit organization has been launched to watch over those who claim they are doing good. The Center for Social Responsibility and Accountability (CESRA) aims to ensure charities and non-profit organizations are accountable - and that donor funds get to where they are supposed to go. CESRA founder and managing director Julie Nyaga says she started the organization because donors have lost trust in Kenyan-based charities and non-profit organizations. And for good reason. While many of these organizations do an excellent job and really benefit those in need, others are briefcase organizations or simply mismanage their funds. "Most of the donors whom I approached complained that NGOs in the country diverted funds so their bond members benefited, rather than spending money on helping the targeted groups," said Ms. Nyaya.
